I stumbled across this book one day while looking through a bookshelf at my house (which I share with three other people). Suprisingly, the owner said he had never read it. I was curious, so I cracked it open. It was basically just a happy accident that I came across it. This book is a must for any serious, naturally-trained lifter or bodybuilder concerning diet and training. He dispells all the myths we've been fed over the years and backs EVERYTHING he states with scienctific, peer-rievewed studies. He goes over the myths about cholesterol intake and fat intake, and (most importantly), he dispells the myth that we all need to eat lots and lots of carbs all the time! Ever think maybe you SHOULDN'T spike your insulin after exercise with a sugary drink? Well he gives a few good reasons. And everything comes back to natural hormonal enhancement. Every hormone in your body can be made to work for you with this plan. Testosterone, growth hormone, insulin, everything is covered in immaculate detail. He goes over training frequency, too, and describes why it is NOT ok to train with weights two days in a row. Cardio training is also addressed. Ever heard of high intensity interval training? Well it will do more to help you lose fat by doing it on the non-lifting days than slugging along on the treadmill after you've hit the weights. Huh? That's not what you've been told, right? I know, I was shocked too after reading most of this book, but after adopting the plan, I've made great progress. I've lost about 5% bodyfat in the last 1.5 months and I've managed to keep nearly all of my strength in the gym in the process. You have to give this plan time, but it will work if you give it a chance. Of course, if you aren't 'natural' don't bother reading this book because none of it really applies to you. |
